- Out-patient
abortion is accomplished in a one day process. If your
pregnancy has progressed past 11 weeks, cervical
softeners or "cytotec" will be necessary. The cytotec,
which gently opens the cervix, need to stay in the cervix
for 2-3 hours making the abortion a 3-4 hour one-day
process.
-
- At
the beginning of the visit, you will view an
instructional video in which our physician and
anesthesiologist discuss the procedure, explain risks and
complications, and go over aftercare instructions. An
ultrasound will be performed to determine exactly how far
along your pregnancy has progressed. If you are less than
9 weeks from your last menstrual period, you may opt for
a medical abortion with RU486 or
Methotrexate.
-
- You
will have a blood test done to determine your Rh type and
hemoglobin level to rule out anemia. Then, a BVWSC health
educator will review your medical history. It is very
important that you provide us with your complete health
history. This is to ensure your utmost health and safety
and will enable us to provide you with the best care
possible. Please be honest with us. We are not here to
judge you.
