The abortion will be performed by a highly skilled physician after the anesthesiologist starts your IV and administers medication to let you sleep, if you choose general anesthesia. The physician uses the vacuum aspiration method, which is the safest and most common operation performed in the U.S. today. Normally the procedure is completed in less than ten minutes. Afterwards, you will rest in the recovery room, unless you've opted to use local anesthesia, until you are released to return home.

Many procedures at BVWSC are performed under general anesthesia. This means that you will be completely asleep and unaware during the procedure. We also offer IV sedation and local anesthesia. Your total time at the clinic is usually 2-3 hours, all in one day if desired.

A two-week follow-up appointment will be made at discharge. This visit is free and important for your health.
